July 8- Goodbye Scotland

My last day in Scotland wasn't too eventful. I got up, had breakfast, and read 20 pages in my religions textbook. Then Courtney and I went for a walk along the water. I should have taken some pictures, but I didn’t even think about it. It was beautiful, sunny morning. The green countryside was beautifully sandwiched in between the blueness of the water and the clear, cloudless sky.

The tide was low, so we walked down to the river’s edge and found a ton of sea glass and seashells. We then went back to the ship for lunch. Unfortunately, the security people on the ship wouldn’t allow us to take our seaglass on board. How ridiculous is that? I really don't know what their reasoning was. “Oh here, let me cut you with this complete soft, rounded piece of glass.” It’s not a prohibited item.

Anyways, that was kind of dumb. After lunch, Courtney and I went to the walking mall in town to do some souvenir shopping. Then we found a little café that had free wi-fi and did our internet surfing and updating for the day. When we got back to the ship, we were surprised by having a barbeque for dinner. Maybe the staff felt bad for not allowing us to bring our pretty seaglass and seashells on board. When dinner was over, I headed back to my cabin and worked on homework until now. Time for bed.

Sidenote: All of the Scottish folk we met during our time here were so nice! They're seriously some of the happiest, kindest people I've ever met. This experience was completely different from Portugal and Spain where no one smiled at us or seemed to care that we exist. The Scottish people, on the other hand, would smile every single time we walked past them on the sidewalk. More than half the time they would say “Good morning!” or “Hello there!” It was quite refreshing!
